IRVINE, CA: 30-Year-Old, Identified as Alex Salas-Blanco is Killed in Vehicle Crash

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA (April 9, 2018) – Alex Salas-Blanco, 30-years-old and South Gate resident, was headed South on the 73 Freeway in Newport Beach when he slammed into CalTrans grader and tragically died. (map)

Salas-Blanco was driving in a Ford F-250 when the vehicle swerved into the center divider and crashed into a grader that was owned by Caltrans. The truck was travelling at high speeds and hit it so fast that the grater acted like a can opener, splitting that truck in half just before it burst into flames.

Our sources indicate that Salas-Blanco was tragically killed on impact. The major toll road was closed for nine hours after the deadly crash. The person that was working the grader had stepped away from the truck for 10 minutes and did not sustain any injuries involving this incident. Some liability may rest on CalTrans for failure to park grader in a safe location. It is unclear at the time whether the CalTrans grader was supposed to be parked at site where it was impacted by the Ford vehicle.

The incident is still under investigation and information is still being released at the time. It is unknown at the time whether alcohol or drugs was a factor in causing this tragedy.
