The accident happened late Sunday night, after a single engine Piper Cherokee crashed in a pasture about a mile away from the Branson West Municipal Airport in Missouri. The plane was carrying two people, and were reportedly meeting family in the area.

The two people on board were tragically pronounced dead as a result of the accident. The accident remains under investigation at this time to determine cause and liability. The two people on board have been identified as a man and a woman from Gardner, Kansas, but their names have not been released. The aircraft is registered to a Keith M. Curtis from Gardner, but it is unknown if he was on board the plane.

This was the 60th incident involving a Piper Aircraft in 2017. Of those 60 incidents, 20 people were confirmed to have been killed as a result. Piper is one of the leading aircraft manufacturers in the United States, and their planes are used mainly for taxis and private use.
