The accident happened around 7:00 am on GA196 near Ray Road. A school bus en route to Taylor Creek Elementary School began experiencing mechanical troubles. Video showed the driver, 62 year old Evelyn Rodriguez, struggling with the gear shift as the bus lost control, veering into a ditch for almost 100 yards before crashing into a tree.
5 year old Cambra Shuman was killed as a result of the accident. The rest of the 20 children on the bus all sustained minor to moderate injuries, and the bus driver was hospitalized after the accident.
The investigation is ongoing at this time to determine cause and liability. Weather conditions, drugs and alcohol have all been ruled out at this time, and officials are investigating the possibility that the bus suffered a mechanical failure. HWG Law will continue to investigate this accident, and will release updates as it receives them.
“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort all family members and friends as they cope with such tragic loss,” said the attorneys from HWG Law. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all parties affected in this tragedy as they try to piece together what happened.”
