The accident happened around 9:55 am at the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Vineland Avenue. Catherine Gomez was crossing the street with her boyfriend after getting tacos for dinner. As they proceeded through a marked crosswalk, a car reportedly ran a red light and struck the couple.
Cathy Gomez was tragically pronounced dead as a result of her injuries. Her boyfriend is in the hospital in unknown condition. The driver that struck the two was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, and initial reports indicate authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved at this time.
