Dawn was on board a small plane along with her husband Robert, a pilot, and another passenger on Saturday. The plane, a Beechcraft Bonanza, took off from Montgomery Field around 4:20 pm. Shortly after takeoff, the plane began experiencing engine troubles and the pilot attempted to return to the airport. The plane crashed into a baseball field off Chandler Drive, then skidded into a home that was thankfully unoccupied.
Dawn Stelling managed to escape the wreckage of the plane with injuries, but her husband Robert was tragically killed as was the pilot. The remaining passenger was also injured in the crash. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, but initial reports indicate the plane was owned by Altitude Aviation, a company based out of Hermosa Beach, CA that offers private jet charter services.
