DEAL, NJ: Pedestrian Hit by Train and Killed near Sherman Avenue

DEAL, NEW JERSEY (December 25, 2017) – A pedestrian was struck by a train and killed on Christmas morning near Sherman Avenue, according to an article by Patch.com. (map)

The accident happened around 5:51 am. North Jersey Coast Line train 4708 was traveling between the Allenhurst and Elberon stations when it struck a pedestrian near the Sherman Avenue/Brighton Avenue Crossing.

The pedestrian, who was identified only as a male, was tragically killed as a result of the accident. It is unknown why the man was on the tracks, but the investigation is ongoing. Initial reports indicate that the Sherman Avenue crossing is equipped with crossing arms for vehicles, but there is no sidewalk or safe zone for pedestrians to cross.

This was North Jersey Coast Line’s second accident just this month. On December 18th, one of their trains collided with a vehicle at Evergreen Avenue and Memorial Drive. And, back in October of this year, a North Jersey Coast train struck and killed a pedestrian near Asbury Park and Bay Head.

The investigation into Monday’s fatal train accident is ongoing, and information is still being released. HWG Law will continue to update this article as more information becomes available. HWG Law deals with train accidents and has knowledge of assisting clients with train related incidents.

“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort all family members and friends affected by this tragic accident,” said the attorneys from HWG Law. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved.”
