KENT, WA: Fa’alafua and his brother, Freddie Iopu Killed in Wrong-Way Collision

KENT, WASHINGTON (April 9, 2018) – Fa’alafua “Moe” Jr.and his brother, Freddie Iopu Ili, were tragically killed in a wrong-way crash that resulted in six people injured and multiple DUIs. (map)

On Monday night, 38-year-old Fa’alafua “Moe” Ili, Jr.and his brother, Freddie Iopu Ili, who was 36-years old, started heading east in the westbound lanes on Highway 516 when they turned onto the wrong-way roadway on Highway 516 and crashed into three other cars, injuring six people. Initial sources indicate that Ili Jr. impacted a 1999 Lexus RX, driven by a 59-year-old Seattle man and his 5-year-old daughter, on its side and consequently struck a 2005 Nissan Altima. A woman was driving the Nissan with her child, 5, in the vehicle with her. A Chevy Cobalt, driven by the fourth driver involved in the collision, swerved and crashed into the guardrail in attempt to dodge the collision but in return, slammed into the Lexus.

Each of the four vehicles involved in the crash occupied two passengers, and all of them sustained injuries, with some categorized as critical. Ili Jr. was identified as the driver of the vehicle that crashed multiple vehicles, killing two people and injuring six others. His younger brother, who was sitting in the passenger seat, did not survive the fatal crash.

Officials are still investigating the incident. It is unclear at the time whether drugs or alcohol played a role in this deadly multi-vehicle collision. Our sources indicate that the two brothers had a history of being charged on four counts on driving under the influence. Between 2008 to 2010, Ili Jr. had been charged with four DUIs. HWG Law will continue to update this article as more information is released.
