CAMP PENDLETON: 4 Marines are Killed in US Marine Helicopter Crash

EL CENTRO, CALIFORNIA (April 3,2018) – A US Marine helicopter crashed in a remote area of California during a Southern California training mission, and all four crew members were presumably killed. (map)

The US Marine helicopter, a CH-53E Super Stallion, crashed at 2:30 p.m. late afternoon on Tuesday near El Centro, a few miles from the U.S. Mexican border. The chopper went down in a remote part of California, just north of the city of Plaster. super stallion helicopter crashed during a training mission. The Super Stallion belonged to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing in San Diego.
The four crew members who were tragically killed in the Super Stallion helicopter crash were identified as Capt. Samuel Schultz of Huntingdon Valley, 28- years-old from Pennsylvania, and Lieutenant Samuel Phillips. 27-years old from North Carolina. Both men were pilots and had joined the Marines in 2013, Schultz in 2012.

Lance Corporate Taylor J. Conrad, 24-years-old, and Gunner Sergeant Derik R. Holley, 33-years-old, were the other two Marine service members that were killed in this deadly crash.
The CH-53E Super Stallion is the largest helicopter in the U.S. military. It is used for transporting, carrying troops and cargo, and minesweeping. How, it is alarming that this is the Super Stallion’s first deadly crash. In 2005, 31 people were killed when another CH-53E helicopter went down in Iraq during a sandstorm.
