PARAMOUNT (March 19, 2018) – Four pedestrian high-school students were hit by a pickup truck near the Rosecrans and Downey intersection Monday afternoon. (map)
At 3 p.m., Saul Martinez, 19, was identified as the driver of the pickup truck that had hit pedestrian high school students. Martinez was trying to switch lanes and spun out control. The vehicle plowed onto the sidewalk, where he struck three girls and one boy. Initial reports indicate that Martinez was speeding in attempt to pass another vehicle, a Toyota Prius. The names of the four victims have not been released at this time, however, they have been confirmed to be Paramount High School students. Our sources state that the pedestrian students had flown into a gate upon impact, where the gate itself also fell. They were all transported to a hospital for the injuries that they sustained. Martinez has been arrested with felony charges for reckless driving.
The investigation into Monday’s incident is ongoing, and information is still being release.
