The plane, a Piper PA-23, took off from the Knoxville Downtown Island Airport with three people on board. Around 3:18 pm, the plane crashed into the front yard of a home at 1114 Groner Drive, landing on top of a car parked in front. The plane also struck several trees on the way down.
All three on board the plane sustained injuries. One of the three occupants was identified as Gerald Marotta, a flight instructor. There is only one Gerald Marotta listed in the FAA’s pilot database, and that Gerald Marotta received their pilot’s license in 1976.
