“Family Killed in Plane Crash”
HARRISBURG, OREGON (April 10, 2017) – 17 year old John Zitting was tragically killed in a small plane crash on Friday morning near Harrisburg, along with his mother and father, according to a local news source. (map)
The small plane was traveling from Van Nuys airport to Eugene, Oregon, where John and his parents were intending to tour the University of Oregon, where John was interested in attending. The family of three from Thousand Oaks, California hired pilot Mark Aletky to fly them there in a 1984 Piper PA-46-310P. Around 11:00 am, the small plane crashed in a field near Harrisburg, Oregon, for an unknown reason.
All four people on board the plane were tragically killed in the accident. The crash remains under investigation by local authorities, and by the FAA and the NTSB. Weather conditions at the time were described as severe, and witnesses say they saw the plane flying north before it abruptly turned and crashed into the field.
