Dozens of children were present at Vault PK’s open gym night, which was catering to ages 5-14 on Saturday. Vault PK is a parkour style gym located in a warehouse, which also houses a paintball facility and a Crossfit gym. A stairwell and platform at the indoor gym collapsed on Saturday evening during the open gym time, causing many injuries to those on, and underneath it.
21 children were injured, and two adults also sustained injuries. The injuries ranged from minor scrapes and bruises, to more severe spinal injuries. Many children were rushed to area hospitals after the accident.
The incident remains under active investigation, but initial reports indicate the facility may have been overcrowded due to a Groupon that was being offered that night. Children were running up and down the staircase that led to the platform, which may have been unequipped to handle the weight of all the children on it at the time of the accident. The incident is being investigated by professionals to determine cause and liability at this time.
