SANTA ROSA, CALIFORNIA (October 19, 2017) – A 19 year old man was struck by a SMART train on Steele Lane on Thursday afternoon, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened around 3:55 pm on West Steele Lane. A bicyclist was approaching the crossing as the gate arms and lights activated, but he did not appear to hear them. A southbound SMART train struck the bicyclist, throwing him almost 30 feet across West Steele Lane.
The bicyclist, who was identified only as a 19 year old man, was rushed to the hospital after the accident, and their current condition is unknown. The accident remains under investigation at this time to determine cause and liability.
