Santa Rosa, California (April 12, 2021) Around 11:27 pm, a man was killed on State Route 1, near Valley Ford in a head on collision on State Route 1 north of Valley Ford Road on Saturday, April 10, 2021. According to Santa Rosa CHP, a Nissan Frontier traveling southbound and a Dodge truck traveling northbound collided and came to rest blocking the highway. Twenty-five year-old Winter Nason of Santa Rosa was driving northbound of Highway 1 and failed to observe the crash, striking the left side of the Dodge and the rear of the Nissan.

The Nissan became engulfed with flames, but officers are still investigating whether the fire started after the first crash or after the second. Witnesses reported hearing something popping while one of the vehicles was on fire, then it exploded onto the houses. There was also a 50 year-old male that was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial with major intrusions and altered levels of consciousness.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.

It is under investigation whether the driver of the Nissan was under the influence.
